We know our husbands view things somewhat differently than we do but with fairy tales?
My husband put our daughter to bed the other night. She begged him for a story.
He sighed, frustrated, pointing out that the night before he had read her a fairy tale and the whole time she kept asking the ubiquitious "why". Why? Why? Why?
My husband who always swore no would mean no in our house, caved.
Of course he decided that he would shorten Goldilocks so that he could hopefully get her to bed quicker so he could resume watching Dirty Jobs.
Apparently Goldilocks sat on a chair, then laid in a bed, then saw a bear and ran home.
THE END
I heard all this as I sat with the baby in the nursery, rolling my eyes and shaking my head. I think my eyes are still stuck in the top of my head.
My daughter, content with her dad's story immediately snuggled under the covers and asked for night-night kisses.
As he left the room, I commented on how there was no way she was going to accept that as a bedtime story. No way. I told Bob to give her two minutes before she was begging for another story.
Not another peep was heard.
My husband was pretty proud of himself.
I cried foul. I felt that our daughter was cheated. What kind of story was that, I ask?
Needless to say, the only opinion that mattered was Emily's. It seemed she thought it was a perfectly acceptable tale.
Her dad is still smiling about that one. Maybe because I was wrong.

I absolutely want to know: how does he get off so easy? In our house Daddy does something totally appalling, totally unheard of, totally abbreviated so he can get on with his "important" priorities...and it's totally accepted!!! Now if I would even ever dare to try something like that...
That's hilarious!! And if YOU had told a bedtime story like that I bet she wouldn't have been so content with it!! Dads usually get off easier than we do!! :)
He just got lucky. ;) Now if he can get away with it TWICE, then I will be impressed.
In our house it's the other way round - my husband tells long complicated adventure superhero tales before bed, whereas mine are usually something along the lines of "the superheroes had dinner and went to bed." Somehow, I get away with it! I guess it's a matter of lowering expectations ;).
That's a good question. How DO they get off so easy? I think maybe even our children know that women rule. ;)
Dads get to play by different rules. At least they are different at my house.
Yeah, what is up with that? There's no way I'd get by with an abbreviated bedtime story telling like he did. NO FAIR!
Heck, even with books, any time I tried to skip a page, they were onto me.
I have to agree that dad's get to play by different rules. We'll see if he gets away with it again. Em was pretty excited that her dad was reading to her again. He's been getting home so late that he barely gets to peek his head in to say goodnight to the girls most nights.
Oh my - too funny (but at the same time not funny for moms). Thanks for the follow - following you now.
That is right out of a comedy! HAHAHA. Too funny. My husband would NOT get away with that. I think yours just got off lucky. NExt time will be the test.
Same way in our house! SAME! What is this mystery of dads?
That is SO funny!! Leave to to Bob... Steven gets away with that too, Alex calls him on it though, but accepts it!
I wonder if she would have had the same reaction with you.
