Do Not Pass Go

A property mogul....

Silver bling...

Money, money, money...

I have had all of the above at least once...

...playing Monopoly with my husband's family.

Cutthroat, competitive, name calling ensuing games of Monopoly that more often than not end in laughter.

When my husband told me that his family played Monopoly, I thought okay they liked to play board games.

No, just Monopoly.  And not just on any old Monopoly game board.

On Thanksgiving or when they are all together, my mother-in-law pulls out their Franklin Mint Collector's Edition Monopoly game.

I should have known then how serious they were.

The games often last hours.

It is not over until everyone has lost it all to the victor.

Forking it over and calling it quits after admitting defeat because you are tired of playing is NOT acceptable (at least BC-before kids).

Also, things get rowdy when trades occur, especially when they occur between husbands and wives.

One year, my mother-in-law made Monopoly pajama pants for the men.  Down the stairs they paraded in their bright yellow pants decorated with Mr. Monopoly.

They were good sports about modeling the pants.

In a few years, our children will all be able to play Monopoly with us.  Then, we will really have raucous family gatherings.

Anyone up for a game of Monopoly?

Is there a family game that you play when everyone is together?

My family LOVES games. We grew up watching our parents get together with friends to play games at each other's homes - a big gathering with kids playing together in the background. My husband's family is obsessed with Scrabble, but it's not my favorite. I really love playing Settler's of Catan or Carcassone. Playing Settler's with couples can be dangerous, though. A rough trade might break up a marriage! lol

When we get together with my mom's side of the family we play Blurt...my family only likes games that involve lots of yelling!

We used to play Cranium all the time, especially with friends. That is a fun game. When I lived in my apartment my neighbor and I would get together to play Scrabble. I have never heard of Blurt, Settler's of Catan, or Carcassone. It is fun when you have games where you can play couple against couple when you have friends over.

My four-year old is just getting into board games - love them. So far we're into chutes and ladders and Candyland, but looking forward to raucous games of Monopoly in our future!

What?? They PLAY on their Franklin mint Monopoly board? Isn't it supposed to a treasured collector's item to be framed and/or displayed in a trophy case?

I love the Monopoly PJs and I wish my family had as much fun as yours.

We love Monopoly too and my husband is a stickler and makes us mortgage our property and sell everything back, when I just really want to quit. Those games do last days!!!

My dad loved to wheel and deal when we played it. He would try to slip money to everyone and make deals on the side. It was crazy.

We love to play Taboo and the Scene It games. And we are not big on rules, we are more make them up as we go along. LOL

No we don't. Last time I tried to play LIFE with Jellybean, she got tired of it halfway through.
