Those Are Not My Underwear

After a trip to the playground one morning where I was bombarded with water by a child that was not mine, my daughters both (at the same time) took an afternoon nap which meant I got some time to rejuvenate my weary mommy soul.

After the girl's awoke, I was renewed enough to trek to Wal-mart.

After leaving Wal-mart, as I was walking to my car, I noticed a car that looked like mine but...my car did not have a pair of underwear sitting on the windshield when I left it parked in the parking lot.

I looked around for someone.  Who I am not quite sure.  The offender who picked up a pair of underwear off of the ground and stuck them on the car?  The person who owned the car? Because that couldn't have been my car.  Could it?

They were at closer inspection a pair of children's training pants...and looking undoubtedly familiar.

The last time I saw them, they had been in the diaper bag sitting on the floor of my car.  The open diaper bag on the floor...that was now minus my daughter's underwear. I have so much stuff crammed into my diaper bag that most of the time it doesn't close. I always travel with at least one change of clothes for each child because as any parent of a just potty-trained child knows, accidents happen.

I am surmising that my daughter's underwear somehow got knocked out of the bag when I reached in to grab the cart cover that had been sitting next to the diaper bag.  Ooops.

Needless to say, if I had seen a pair of underwear laying on the ground, I sure as heck would NOT have picked them up.  If I had noticed them after shopping, I probably would NOT have even acknowledged them or picked them up even if they had been my daughter's and they were clean (which they were).  Nope not mine.

I guess the person who picked them up figured they belonged to the occupants of our car based on the two car seats in the back seat. Luckily, they were clean.

There is a certain ick factor about the whole thing even though I know I should be grateful that they were returned.

What do you think?

You had me at your title - great post.

And yes, the simultaneous nap - one of life's small miracles!!

Like you, if I had noticed them sitting on the ground, even if I knew they belonged to us, I probably would have just stepped over them.

Guess someone was nice to figure out they belonged to you, but, what kind of person would pick up someone's underwear and put them on a car windshield? I'm picturing a little sweet older woman, who was puttering along and saw them. That makes it easier to "digest."

Oh yes, ick factor indeed!

I think that it's crazy that someone would pick up a pair of undies and assume they were yours and put them on your car. I might do that for a goof if I had a fishing pole with me.

Joy, although we have only known each other for about an hour, I would like to suggest that you keep a camera handy at all times. I would have loved to see the photo of the undies on the windshield. Can you do a reenactment?

You know I have a camera on my phone. I never even thought to take a picture. It was very weird (and embarrassing). I would rather an elderly lady than some creepy guy. Needless to say I have rearranged my diaper bag so it now closes.

I don't think there is ever a good enough reason to pick up underwear off of the ground. Even if they were my kids :-)

So, how embarassed were you to pick them off of your windshield?! I would have died!

HAHAHAHAHA! Okay first let me stop laughing....hahahahahaha....ok... No I would not pick up stray undies. And if I knew they were mine...well my kids anyway...I might pretend to drop something, and quickly toss them in the car. LOL. You should have taken a picture. We don't judge. hahaha.

Too funny!

I love the fact that you got an afternoon (before the Wal-Mart trek) to renew your weary mommy soul!

I am hoping that maybe the person saw you knock them out of your car? I would totally have left them too. did you bring them home or put them back on the ground?

I agree, there is a certain ick factor about the whole situation, lol.

I would not pick up someones underwear and place it on their car. That's just strange.

I think you should have taken a picture of the undies on the windshield of your car. That's good stuff right there. That could be a blog post all it's own.

And um no. I wouldn't have picked up a random pair of undies and stuck them on anyone's car. Definitely too much ick factor there for me. No matter how clean they really were!

LOL!!

I am glad that I am not the only one who thought that the whole situation was weird (and really, really uncomfortable). Honestly, I was mortified when I realized what had happened. I hope that whoever did pick them up did see them fall out of the car.

I grabbed them off the windshield and threw them in the car on the floor. I honestly had to debate with myself what to do (it didn't help that my daughter was saying, "my undies, my undies" as I rolled the cart over to our car.) I threw them in the car and threw them away when we got home. I was to freaked out by the whole thing.

My husband-Mr. Logical-really didn't think it was to big of a deal (and really thought someone was being nice) and I could tell he thought I was overreacting even though he didn't say it. Maybe I am but I am glad that you guys think it was weird to.

I wouldn't have been thoughtful (or weird?) enough to return someone else's undies to their windshield (Huh?) but I guess I'd be grateful that someone returned mine? But I'd probably throw them out. I don't know. I might just wash 'em and use them again. I have been known to wipe a dropped pacifier off on my shirt though and pop it back into a baby's mouth. *shrug*

It was a nice gesture in an icky sort of way. The fact that they put them on your WINDSHIELD cracks me up though. It's almost like "oh what's this?" "Eww!! It's someone's underwear" and toss, it lands on the windshield, Hahah. Sorry to giggle but, you ARE talking about underwear, here...
