Mixes From The Heartland Review & Giveaway

While my family does not follow a gluten-free diet, some families do.  Mixes From The Heartland is located in Amarillo, Texas.  Their products are gluten-free and packaged in a facility that is free of eggs, wheat, nuts, soy, oats, barley, and rye (which is important for families with members who have food allergies).  They sell mixes to create soups, side dishes, breads, meals, and desserts.  The mixes range in price from $4.99-$6.99. 
 
Mixes From The Heartland had sent my family a box of samples to try.  I made a whole gluten-free meal for my family. Here are the results:

Green Chili Hamburger Soup

All you had to add was browned beef, crushed tomatoes, and water. I would recommend using the beef broth in place of 2 cups of water for more flavor (which I would do next time).  I also did not add the full recommended amount of water because my family likes their soup chunky with less liquid.  It had a light flavor and was not at all spicy.  My two year old loved it.
 
Dilled Pasta Salad
 

All you need to add to the dilled pasta salad is mayo (I used Miracle Whip Salad dressing instead) and milk for the sauce.  If you like dill and macoroni salad, you'll like this dish a lot.  I enjoyed this dish and think it would even make a good snack.  This would be perfect for a picnic. You could also add some fresh veggies to it.


Texas Bean Bake Meal 

One word: Yummy!!!! This was my favorite. All you had to add was ground beef, water, and barbeque sauce (or ketchup).  I love spicy food and it did have a bit of a bite (it was spicy enough that we didn't give any to the two year old). I also used my favorite barbeque sauce.  The entire kitchen smelled divine as this cooked.  Next time I want to try it in the crockpot since it did take awhile to cook due to the beans.  I forgot to take a picture of the finished product.  I guess because I was in to much of a hurry to see if it tasted as good as it smelled.



This meal was given two thumbs up.  I liked that the mixes were all natural, had no preservatives, and were incredibly easy to prepare.  Even though we don't specifically eat gluten-free products, these mixes were delicious.
