Totally Toned Arms: Get Michelle Obama Arms in 21 Days Book Review

How many of us love how our arms look and fluant them in sleeveless tops and dresses in the summer? Everyone was talking about how amazing Michelle Obama's arms looked in sleeveless dresses during her husband's election and inauguration.  The book Totally Toned Arms: Get Michelle Obama Arms in 21 Days was written by Rylan Duggan. He is a registered kinesiologist (sports medicine), certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, certified Personal Trainer, Personal Health and Fitness Consultant, and author of The Go Sleeveless System. He has appeared in many national magazines and on national news programs because of his ability to get results.

The program outlined in this book is a 21 day plan and Duggan also provides a maintenance plan (3 workouts) at the end of the book to help you keep your achieved results.  One misconception that I had was that the book would only be about arm exercises to tone your arms to get arms like Michelle Obama.  I was wrong.

You start off with a 7 day jump-start fitness plan and then for the following weeks follow a five day routine taking weekends off.   His plan incorporates cardio (to burn fat) and strength training (this is where the firming up your arms comes in). The program will only take you about 30 minutes to complete on a daily basis. What equipment do you need?  Yo will need hand weights, a stability ball, and resistance bands.  If you have an at-home gym or go to a local gym, you can also use an exercise bench (or a chair can be substituted if you don't have one), lat pull-down, chest press, and cable machines, and a treadmill or elliptical.  I liked that the pictures and detailed instructions were provided for all of the strength training exercises in the book so they were easy to follow.

The book also includes a nutrition program. Duggan outlines basic guidelines about how to eat and what to eat.  He also explains how to adjust your portion sizes based on your body weight.  Nutrition is just as important as cardio and strength training to get fit arms.

Overall, I really liked this book and found it to be very informative.  Before starting the program, I highly recommend reading the entire book first.  It was a relatively easy read.  I would have liked more suggestions for what to eat for each meal though beyond a sample two-day plan.  For anyone watching what they eat, it is hard to constantly come up with meals and recipes that are delicious and healthy.  One of the most beneficial things I read in the book was how to avoid hitting plateaus which for anyone trying to lose weight can be extremely frustrating.

I love my arms, but it is only because of carrying around a baby! Now that she is 2, I always ask to carry her!!

I guess I will need to actually do something to keep them nice :-(

I wish my arms were more toned. With two little ones you would think they would be. Before I got pregnant with my second daughter, I had been working really hard to get them firmer but then after my second daughter was born I slacked off. Time to start over.
